Week 2 Studio A - E-Learning Tutorial

For this week studio A lesson, it is e-learning. We were given a list of videos to watch and do the exercise which step-by-step instructions were given.

Video 1 - For this video, it is done by following the instructions given.

Video 2 - Create a simple 10 seconds motion graphic video with the above technique. 

For Video 2, I changed the background color and the techniques used are mainly dragging and moving the words, to have the "entering the screen" effect.

Week 1 Studio B - Example of Motion Graphics

Example of Motion Graphics

1) Logo/ Brand ID

a. Walt Disney

b. To allow the viewers to know that the movie is by Walt Disney. Also, to shows that Walt Disney is a significant and cool company by the amount of graphics(firework, castle, sky,etc) they used in the video. The style of the video is to differentiate themselves from their competitor as well.

c. The video start out with the clouds and slowing moving down to the sea, trains then zooming out and show the flag then the castle and the fireworks. Lastly, the overall of the whole image with the ending of "Walt Disney Pictures" wordings. The main graphics used are, clouds, castle, fireworks, etc to show dreamlike/fairytale concept.

2) Concept Video

b. Concept video is just a concept made which is still not real in the realistic world. It is mainly a concept to bring people to further imagine what our future can be like or to bring in the idea to people that our Science & Technology will further improve in the future.

c. It mainly shows that the technology "Glass" have a lot of function which improve peoples' life.

b. To deliver informations to the viewer in a less boring way and also telling the viewers that the amount of people using the social media is increasing.

c. Fast paced with graphic intensive movements. The Art Style of the video is mainly using Typography and also music to add on the intensity of the video.

4) Instructional

b. To teach people how to act when they encounter someone that fainted and also teaches people how to do Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). It also want to deliver the message of asking people not to panic if their encounter such situation and it is easy to do a CPR.

c. It only contains simple graphics of two character acting out on CPR and also text and sound instruction of how to do the CPR.

5) Kinetic Typography

b. Showing the lyrics of the song in a more fun and interesting way. The purpose of the video could be by using the graphics to match up with the lyrics to aim to let people to remember the lyrics easier.

c. It mainly contains typography and graphics that match up with the lyrics. The font of the typography also play a big part in the video. For example, at 3:13 to 3:15 the lyrics of "Thunderbolt and lighting very very frightening", the font give the impression of scary look and thunder graphics were there to support the lyrics as well.

6) Advertisment

b. The main objective of the video is to convey the message of "Live young" to the viewers and also to differentiate themselves from their competitor as well. Evian is about plain water, but they didn't use the concept of water at all so it makes the advertisement much more unique than the rest.

c. In the advertisement they made use of babies roller skating which matches the message of "Live young", like their concept is by drinking Evian even babies will know how to roller skate.

7) Movies

b. To briefly show parts of the movie, like a trailer. Mainly it just shows the exciting part of the movie to draw people to come and watch the full movie. In the video, it also indicate who is the director, writer, etc.

c. Fast moving pace of the different parts of the movie, like briefly swept past.

8) Promotional Video

b. To show the viewers, what the company had done to give happiness to others. Also, to give a generous and fun image of the company.

c. Showing the how coca-cola did to give happiness to others - by giving them free cokes, foods, etc. And how people react to it, also how happy they feel by the surprises.

9. Lower Thirds

b. Give the viewers short and brief information of what is happening. Also provides information of who is the broadcaster etc. Mainly is to provide short and brief information.

c. At the lowest point of the video, is the short and brief information of news. At the top of it, is the sub header that provide information. Further at the top of it, is the heading.


Week 1 Studio A

For the first lesson, we were taught what this subject - Motion Graphics and Effects is about. MGE Basically, MGE will be teaching us how to use the different techniques of various sources and produce a final video.

The first thing that came to my mind when the teacher is done with slides is, MGE seems to be similar to MOS - a subject we took during Semester 1.2. But I am wrong, MGE is not exactly like MOS but it can be said that MGE is like an advance level of MOS. It requires more techniques and skills.
